Basic Character Information:
Name: Rei Bei Fong
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Looks: - Rei Bei Fong:
When examined, Rei wouldn't be suspected of being an Earthbender. Except for his clothing, Rei would fit the description of a Water or Airbender much better. He is lean, tall (He's 6'4) and light skinned, lighter skinned than most people of the Earth Kingdom, but a bit darker than those of the Air Nomads. His slim structure, much like that of the Air Nomads, makes him seem as though he could be blown over by even a slight breeze, contrasting nearly every other Earthbender. His hair is dark brown and shoulder-length, held back by a thin headband. His eyes are a plain brown and not very striking, but his teeth are a brilliant white and they are what attract people's attention.
Although he is a native of the Earth Nation, and is expected to wear the clothing of his people, he has a modified outfit that is only slightly, but noticeably, different. There is Maroon trimming on the sleeves from the Fire Nation, yellow silk on the inside of his collar from the Air Nomads, and blue lining on the hair band he wears from the Water Tribes. A slight alteration he has is a long cloak hanging off his right shoulder.
Rei's inexperience with the world outside Ba Sing Se is evident in his appearance. He doesn't have the scars that more experienced warriors have, and his hands aren't nearly as blistered or as tough as those of other Earthbenders. While not barefooted, the bottoms of his boots are incredibly thin, made of a leather that has been shaved down and worn to allow for him to have little interference with his sensory ability.
Personality: Rei, unlike many of his fellow Earth Kingdom members, is very calm, and thinks things through. He prefers to let a situation play out before acting upon it. As such, he thinks that learning Waterbending will be the easiest to learn and Firebending will be most difficult. One of the few things which he does act quickly upon would be when two parties are fighting, as an Avatar, he feels that he should make split second decisions for other people.
Despite his looks, Rei is the full embodiment of a steadfast Earthbender, as he is stubborn as it gets. Once he has made a decision, he will stick by it, even to the point of exhaustion. His sense of right and wrong is nearly as strong as his will, however, some situations will press him tot he point of doing something that would be out of character for him.
Rei hasn't really regarded himself as a leader in the Earth Kingdom military, mainly because he has yet to leave Ba Sing Se, however, as he is now setting off on a world trip, he might find the influence he needs to take up a role in leading the military. His sense of humor is a little dry, but he will laugh at some things, namely at the expense of others, and he isn't proud of it, but that's the way he is.

By manipulating the rocks around them, an experienced Earthbender can coat themselves in heavy, durable armor, capable of withstanding most mundane attacks, it isn't impregnable however, as fluid elements, such as fire and water, can get in the cracks after some exposure. The armor can be moved with bending as well, all ranks can move at 35mph. Fighting Style:
Name: Zui Quan
Rank: General
Element: Earth
Range: Hand to Hand
Description: Literally Drunken Fist, also known as Drunken Boxing or Drunkard's Boxing, Zui Quan is a concept in traditional Chinese martial arts, as well as a classification of modern Wushu forms. Zui Quan is a category of techniques, forms and fighting philosophy that appear to imitate a drunkard's movements. The postures are created by momentum and weight of the body, and imitation is generally through staggering and certain type of fluidity in the movements. It is considered to be among the most difficult wushu styles to learn due to the need for powerful joints and fingers. While in fiction practitioners of Zui Quan are often portrayed as being actually intoxicated, Zui Quan techniques are highly acrobatic and skilled and require a great degree of balance and coordination, such that any person attempting to perform any Zui Quan techniques while intoxicated would be likely to injure themselves.
Even though the style seems irregular and off balance it takes the utmost balance to be successful. To excel one must be relaxed and flow with ease from technique to technique. Swaying, drinking, and falling are used to throw off opponents. When the opponent thinks the drunken boxer is vulnerable he is usually well balanced and ready to strike. When swigging a wine cup the practitioner is really practicing grabbing and striking techniques. The waist movements trick opponents into attacking sometimes even falling over. Falls can be used to avoid attacks but also to pin attackers to the ground while vital points are targeted.
Rei uses this to Earthbend in a less predictable way that the traditional Hung Gar style of Earthbending.
- Metal:
Name: Earth Advanced Element 1
Specialty: Metalbending
Ability: Metal bending is a very hard object to bend. Since metal is formed from pieces of Earth, it is hard to sense the Earth in it and then bend those pieces around it. Name: The Circle-Walker
Specialty: Medical
Ability: Like a leaf riding on the wind, Rei can move unexpectedly, and be very hard to predict. With this, he is capable of unsettling even the most hardened of foes with almost drunken steps. Though he is completely in control all the while, he can use this to maneuver around an opponent quickly and strike without warning.
Name: Know Your Body
Specialty: Medical
Ability: Being the strongest of the Earthbenders, which are a heavily physical people, Rei has trained heavily to know the physical structure of a person, and with that knowledge, he knows just where the weak points are on a person's body, and will attack for those specific points when they are open. These points are mainly nerves and crucial arteries on the body, which, when stuck, cause entire limbs to go numb or for blood flow to be stopped to that part of the body. This also allows him to unblock blocked chi, as long as he has one arm free, however he isn't able to block it himself.
Pet/Animal:Type: Pet
Name: Mala
Species: Shirshiu
Element: Earth
Appearance: Description: Mala is a Shirshu that is One-of-a-Kind. Unlike most, she is somewhat gentle, unless Rei is under attack. If he is, then she won't hesitate to attack that which threatens him. She is Rei's animal companion and a guide of sorts, as her nose never leads him astray.
Special Abilities: Name: Paralyzing Tounge

Origin: Mala's parents belonged to a group of bounty hunters that were in Rei's father's debt, and because of that, a pair of pups were given to Rei's father. One of which, was Mala. Rei's father gave Mala to Rei as a pet when he was first learning Earthbending, and in that period where he learned how to bend earth, Mala learned to track and to use her tounge as an extra weapon. She has been a faithful pet to him most of his life, and as such, Rei won't go anywhere without her.
Weapons:Name: Spiked Staff
Appearance: Range: Close, The Staff is 7'6 feet long, with the clubs each being 2'3 feet and the handle being 3 feet.
Rank: General
Special Abilities: Using this staff, Rei is capable of channeling his Earthbending through it to launch large boulders at his opponents at high speed. He can also use it to launch a rift in the earth at his opponents, tripping them up in their movements. Basically, he can use it to speed up his Earthbending. Boulders hit by the staff travel at around 40 mph at their target, and are more accurate than when he kicks them to move them alone. By using his staff to extend his range, Rei can bend earth up to 35 feet away from him.
Origin: As a high level practitioner of Earthbending, Rei was given this staff as the opposite of an Airbender's staff.
History and RP Sample:History: The Birth of a LegendEarthbending, the very embodiment of strength. And Rei was the exact opposite of that when he was born. He was a light baby, but healthy. The main thing which made people believe that he wasn't Earthbender material, was the fact that he was maturing very slowly. He didn't start crawling until he was a year and a half, and didn't walk or run till he was three, but in the time that he couldn't walk or run, he watched the world around him. He listened to the sounds of the earth, he knew how it interacted with the world, how the things that lived in the earth depended on it, and msot of all, how he could make it do what he wanted. Because he was unable to walk for several years after being born, Rei was toted around on the back of a Shirshu pup, named Mala, who ahd been given to the family when Rei was a year old. This made it much easier for his parents to show him the wonders of the city. So, most of his toddler years were spent in a child's saddle strapped to Mala, who was on a leash held by his mother or father.
As Rei grew older, he continued to listen to the earth, even as the City whirled around him, he spent hours on end laying outside his house with his ear pressed against the stone of the ground. There was so much that one could learn from just listening and being patient. He could hear the low tone of the Monorail, rumbling across the city on it's stone rails. He could hear the people in their houses. He could hear the water in the pipes under the city. And yet, he found it puzzling. With all this listening to the vibrations, he could almost see exactly what he heard through the earth. Continuing to ponder on that, he started to walk around the city, listening to different parts and then moving on, and as time progressed, it got to a point where he didn't even need to put his ear to the ground anymore. He could sense vibrations with his feet and body! He brought this up with his father, who took a great curiosity in it, as there were a few known Earthbenders that had a similar way of sensing the world around them. So, as a surprise for his ninth birthday, Rei's father began to teach him Earthbending and Sand Bending. Metal Bending was something Rei discovered on his own.
Rei's Earthbending training took up the majority of his time in Ba Sing Se. His father was one of the ex-Generals of the Kingdom's Army, and as such, had great skill in the art of Earthbending. The basics of Earthbending were easy enough for Rei to understand and practice, but it was as the art got more in depth that he entered the steep part of the learning curve. He was too passive, too much like a water bender to understand the brashness that was required to Earthbend. He needed to learn to stand up for himself and intervene on his behalf; so, Rei's father took his possessions from him. First it was little things;first he stopped giving him allowance, even though Rei worked hard and knew he deserved it, then he took some of Rei's toys, which Rei didn't really mind, as they were just toys, he could simply play with Mala then. It was only when Rei's father tried to pen Mala up and keep her away from Rei that Rei spoke up. Mala was one thing that he would never allow someone to take from him. He yelled at his father, who simply smiled at him, making him all the angrier. And when his father still persisted that Mala be caged for Rei's own safety, Rei snapped. It was well remembered by the neighborhood what happened. Rei had shot a 6 foot tall boulder at his father, who dodged, and the boulder went through the three houses next door.
The fight continued into the street, as did the destruction. Rei in his fit of rage demolished most of the neighborhood. Houses were severely damaged, and the aftermath was a giant pile of rubble where the main road used to be. It was this reaction that Rei's father was aiming to bring out of him. Rei had defended his beliefs against someone else's, which was the steadfast state of mind needed for Earthbending. Proceeding after that was simple for Rei, he understood what it meant to be of the earth, of the rock. He trained in his stances, standing wide-legged for hours on end. He needed to master Earthbending so he could get out of Ba Sing Se. But his training only further alienated those around him, they thought there was something wrong with him when they spotted a young boy standing still on his roof for hours throughout the day, but he didn't mind. They simply didn't understand how he felt, and that was okay.
With the people around him so alienated to him, there weren't many who Rei could spend free time with, but that didn't get him down. He still had Mala, and she was big enough to ride around the city at this point. Sure, people were afraid of her, but that didn't stop him from riding her, he had set his mind on learning to ride her well, and that was what he would do. The Monorail came into play with this endeavor, as he and Mala would run down the wide track that spanned the city, which ended up with them nearly being run over several times, but also made him known as an expert in Shirshu riding. And that was how he grew up, with few friends, and causing all sorts of trouble.
Ba Sing Se was a literal playground for someone like Rei, with high quality Earthbending at his disposal, he was able to explore every nook and cranny, and took up the hobby of climbing the tallest structures in the city; the wall, the palace, anything he wanted to climb he could with the help of bending. He was told off because of the hand-sized holes he left in the side of some buildings, however, he learned to fill them in to erase the evidence.
Earthbending Master; Part the FirstRei was 15 when he really finished his Earthbending training, and he was now a serious, and thoughtful bender. And with his mastery of Earthbending, came Mala's mastery of tracking. With her tracking and his earthbending, they were capable of causing all sorts of trouble now. There were people who continued to bother him about his rigorous training regime, which, while it didn't bug him too much, still was a little puzzling that people didn't respect the tradition of it. So with Mala's help, he often snuck up on those who had defiled the sacrosanctness of the ancient Earthbending ways in the dead of night, and they were often found hanging upside down by their ankles the next morning. He was never caught, however, people did have their suspicions from the stirred up dirt Mala sometimes left.
The next few years were somewhat uneventful for Rei, he lived in the city and helped teach Earthbending for awhile, as his father made him do, but his heart yearned for adventure, for travel, for excitement. He needed to leave Ba Sing Se, it was his wyrd, his fate, to do so. He was the greatest Earthbender in the entire Kingdom, and yet he had barely been outside the walls of the city before, much less outside the country. As such, it was in his Seventeenth year, the year when those of the Earth Kingdom were of age, that he decided to leave. He decided for himself now, and once decided, there was no turning back. In this period Rei was given a staff that befitted his position as a Master of Earthbending. Seven feet long and ended in heavy metal spikes, the staff was designed to amplify and assist him in his Earthbending. As this staff was bound to become a significant part of his journey, he took it with him wherever he could before his birthday, practicing his bending and using the staff as a medium.
Earthbending Master; Part the SecondIt was time. Time to leave, sure he would miss Ba Sing Se, but there was so much more for him in the world. People to meet, places to go, and on occasion, people to take out any anger he had, on. He cared little for the people he was leaving behind, except for his parents, they had never liked him anyway. But he would miss running around in the streets and playing on rooftops, and dashing ahead of the Monorail. This part of his life was over, and a new age he come to him. This was the time to travel with Mala.
Rp Sample:Rei felt the strength of Mala beneath him, and the air rushing through his hair. They had crossed the sea to the giant island that was the Fire Nation.
"Alright Mala, I think we can stop here for the night." He patted her heaving side, ginning to himself. She had done well, they had crossed most of the southern continent in the last few hours alone.
With a heave, he jumped off and landed nimbly on the ground, making an earth tent around them to shield them for the night.
"Good job, Mala." He sat down, pulling out several packages of meat he had packed that morning, and tossed one to Mala, who snatched it out of the air with her long barbed tongue. Rei then lit a small fire in teh center of the large tent he had made, warming his hands.
"Can you believe it Mala? We're in the Fire Nation. It's so different here. The people, the plants, even the earth sounds different!" He mused to himself a bit more as Mala gnawed the meat, giving off affirmative growls every so often.
Rei listened to the sounds around them, they were different from those at home. At home the crickets were more shrill. He lay flat on the ground and put his ear to the earth and listened. There wasn't any water under this rock, and the earth here was dead, there weren't any bugs, or worms living in it. It was hollow. And yet, there was a vague familiarity about the night around them and the earth below them. A calmness that he had always appreciated. And in that moment, home didn't seem all that far away.
