Not So Pleasant Meeting [Nikki]

The tiled flooring of the Executive Building rang loud throughout the halls as Chaelin walked steadily along it in her high heel plumps. The hallway was mostly silent, saved for her own breath and the occasional gust of wind from the other end of the darkened hallways. Since it led directly to the room of the Fire Empress, Zaag, who didn't like much to be disturbed so not many people did.

That said, even though Chaelin had been informed of such upon her return to the Fire Nation just a couples weeks back, she had put off visiting the woman for long enough. The last encounter the two had Chaelin was almost threatened with death or imprisonment. After that, for the past few weeks all she been doing was fuming angrily at the treatment to her, the princess.

Regardless, while she didn't really want to visit the woman, she needed to. It wasn't cause she was requested, but simply on her own accord. She needed to learn more on the woman even with how much hatred she had for her cause she stole the title which Chaelin considered rightfully and wholly hers.

Among her inner rambling, Chaelin barely noticed as she came to the doors. There were two guards stationed at the door who remained mostly serious, but were quite obviously surprised to see her. And maybe alarm. Why shouldn't they be. Most of them had thought that after what happened the few weeks back that Chaelin would snap and just try to kill Nikki and whoever got in her way. Albeit, she was more strategic than doing something that would surely lead to her death.

She remained stoic as she continued to walk towards the door. One of the guards, raised his staff and blocked her telling her that she isn't allowed. Not only was she not the Fire Lord, now she was basically reminded of the fact that she would always be second. She frowned visibly as her fist clenched. "Fine, can I request to speak with her?" Chaelin said, her anger barely subsided.

The guard opened a small peep hole in the door and spoke through it, informing the Empress of Chaelin's arrival. Chaelin scowled at the guard. Mentally she remembered his face. Whenever she was to succeed in becoming Fire Lord - even in the afterlife - she made a note to make the guard's life hell.

Nikki had been filling out paper work all day, before the fire lord wasn't needed for things like this. But her own form of government needed its work. It was no longer a job where you can yell at people and get them to do things for you. Most labor was now to be done manually or more mentally. Her hands scribled more down on a sheet of paper: Commission of Naval Fleet. She was now fiddling in the designs of many prominent researchers and now she was down to dilibrating on which to chose for the main class battleship.

Her mind began to wonder after looking at a narrow list of 5 types, she was no longer willing to put up with the mental drag and her mind wondered. She thought about how she had 3 siblings, well half siblings. The newest one had tried to usurp control and she jokingly threatend with death. Nikki knew that Chaelin hadn't known that she was only fooling. However it was important she understood where she was standing. Her sister had won the lottery and failed to cash in the ticket. She felt bad for that in a way, yet she still keep a firm belief that she was what was best for the country.

Her eyes latched onto a photo of the family, it showed her father and the 3 kids. It was a old photo, but she had kept it from her Fathers desk. She felt like she had missed out on so much. She felt so lost inside the family, they all hated her the moment she arrived. Within a few weeks of being there she surpassed her Sister and younger brother. They had always hated her for that, but being announced the next fire lord only deeped the hatred towards her. The eldest was right to the heir, she knew that. But she couldn't let her take over, she must keep steering this nation in the right direction.

After a few more moments of staring at the pictures a few drops of tears spalshed onto the photo, the stress of running a nation was finally getting to Nikki, it was becoming harder and harder to control herself. She began to cry in the office and pant with slight sniffles. The guards had ignored it in her mind until they opened the pepe hole. She didn't know it was because someone was outside, the guard told her that the princess was here. Whiping her face and saying "Let her in". Her face was flush red and still tears wore up on the edges of her eyes. She looked like a mess and wasn't thinking how this would appear to the women who most likely hates her. Nikki hoped she wouldn't think she was weak. The fire lord was all about being strong, maybe she would challenge her for the throne in one on one combat. She wasn't sure why she was here. Chaelin would most likely be well informed that no master of fire bending has been able to best her since she was 14, but Chaelin could be confident in her abilites and be foolish or genius enough to challenge her. Chaelin might not even know she could do such a thing, due to the massive amount of rule changing Nikki did.

Unknown to most Nikki had keep many of the traditions and rights alive of the royal family. She wanted to give them some modicome of respect. This was one she keep open, due to her inherent cockyness of her ability. Nikkis sister walked into the room and would most likely notice the sobbing Empress and her in a fire robe that made her look as if she had just woke up. Her hair was even in a total mess and she looked a slob. The guards were use to this, but most would never see her this way. I guess a perk if you will of being within the family. Maybe Chaelin would make fun of her, or maybe she'd be diplomatic about it fearing Nikki harsh actions. Even though Nikki was harmless as a butterfly to almost everyone.

From her position, even with the thick door separating her from the inner workings of the woman's room, Chaelin managed to hear her signal her in. Admittedly, mentally she was relieved. She had thought that the woman would have probably disagree against it. The last thing she wanted to remind her that she was now "second place" was for her to go out of her way come to the younger girl's room and be ignored. That probably would have been the last straw she needed to snap since since after her return the servants of the household would talk among themselves about her. Snicking, chortling. If she knew everyone one of them, then it'd be off with their heads.

Chaelin smiled at the thought and then mischievously at the rather large guards man as he opened the door. She stepped into the room. For a second her fist folded as she saw the girl sit at the desk. My desk, she thought. She dismissed the jealousy though as she studied the woman's features. She took in her details. Behind the desk, especially dressed in a casual robe - which likely meant that the woman had either just woke up or hadn't left her room all day - the woman looked unprofessional. Her age and features didn't support her position very much, and if no one knew who she was they'd never take her seriously. Admittedly though, she was a attractive woman, which was another reason she didn't fit the job well. Chaelin wasn't much better as she was younger herself, but at least she one upped just slightly.

Regardless, pass Chaelin's opinion unprofessional look, there was more. Chaelin studied her face closer. She wasn't sure whether it was the morning sun shining through the large room, her own eyes, or because the girl had just woken up, but she could see what seemed like tears. Regardless unsure, Chaelin smirked as she mentally saw it as something else she could maybe use against her.

Amidst all her studying of the woman, Chaelin had mostly forgotten where she was as even her mischievous smile spread across her lips. Quickly though, she replaced the smirk with a more pleasant friendly one, and against her liking, she she bowed. "Good morning, Empress," she said, it immediately left a bad taste in her mouth.

Mentally she sighed, she really hated all the kindness, but it was best for the time being. "Looks like you settled in nicely, probably even better than me," she lied, but still smiled brilliantly. "Although I always use to sneak in when my dad wasn't around and sit in his chair and pretend I was him. Of course though unlike you I could never really see above the table until I got older," she said in a half giggle. That too left a bad taste in her mouth since it made her want to scream that her biggest dream since she was young, was now out of grasp. She chose to see it as more of a little delay to the inevitable. But she still hated to wait.

For a short second the elder studied Nikki, she got a bit squeamish at the looks from her elder sister. Her older sisters beauty was unmatched and it was simply perfect. She had always wanted to look so mischievous yet pretty. Nikki thought herself as just a pretty girl, one without a edge. She remembered the times at when she was training the masters wouldn't take her seriously. She could never stand that, yet her older sister was fierce and beautiful.

The ones words of fake poured into Nikkis ears, after hearing her story about their father. She whiped a few tears from her eyes. Then looked at her elder sister, "I threatened to kill you, No need to be so kind. I'm more surprised that you didn't slap me. I was joking of course, but at the time it seems it was a bit ugly to say. Despite you being on treason, I understand as you are the rightful heir. Besides I hate being treated with some higher level of respect" she said calm and peacefully. "An't that right Rog" she said yelling towards the door. "Yes MAM!" the guard shouted through the door in a chuckle.

Before the women would responded to her words, Nikki would start again. "What do you want my dear sister? Is there something you need from me. Is it a duel you'd want? I fear you might not be up to the task. Or would you want to push family history on me some more?". For how young Nikki was she would appear to be quite perceptive to the game that Chaelin was playing, this might surprise her a bit. As the only time they talked she came off quite blunt. In the back of Nikkis mind she hoped that Chaelin really did want to talk to her and be her friend. But her mind knew better then that and wouldn't allow such a foolish mistake.

Chaelin mostly confirmed her suspicions that the girl was crying at least. While she would love to prod her on why, it would be too direct and probably wasn't the right time. She made a note to probably ask another time once the two would have probably gotten "closer" as "sisters". Mentally she scoffed slightly since she just realized that in spite of the two's indifference, they were half sisters. If she hadn't taken her spot as Fire Lord, Chaelin would have been glad to accept her since she would have trusted her father's judgement to adopt her.

Regardless, no use thinking on what ifs.

Chaelin wasn't sure why though, but hearing the girl say she didn't need to be kind, somewhat had her hating her more, yet disliking her a bit less, both at the same time. She hated her for seeing through her "kindness", yet she liked her somewhat cause of the fact that she recognized that she had wronged her. Regardless, unless the woman was willing to step down make her the Fire Lord, then she would still mostly hate her. And she knew for a fact that she probably wasn't going to be so easily, or maybe not since she had just admitted it was rightfully Chaelin's title to hold.

Chaelin sighed, still smiled. All of what she said sounded good. It all sounded good, especially the sparring part. The Fire Natives were the most warlike of all. The day they saw Nikki get bested, while they wouldn't overthrow her, they would certainly begin to have less fate in her. and while Chaelin would love nothing more than ramming her face in a few times, especially the girl practically insisted she do, Chaelin didn't. Her father again was a smart man. While she had gotten trained by Donghae, who was one of the only Fire Benders who could hold a candle to her father, her father wouldn't put someone weak in his throne. The last thing Chaelin wanted was to get beat, thus furthering her embarrassment.

For now, she wanted to continue to learn more about the girl, to ensure that when the two did duel for the title - something she saw as somewhat inevitable - that her victory would be sure.

Chaelin chortled. "Well, you threatening to kill me was a bit much." Her legs felt heavy having stand and she walked to a open chair. "And, while I admit I was angry at first, for now I just sort of want to get to know my little sister - especially since you're a bit older and thus a bit easier to talk to than our other dear little sister," she said. "So don't worry, I have no really intent to fight you or give you boring history lessons. I honesty just came to talk maybe over a walk, a glass of tea or a bath, but since you seem too busy, I guess should come back later, huh?" She already felt foolish catching her in a bad time. She hated that feeling.

The women responded to here comments and Nikki began to feel a uneasiness set in the room. She seemed to try and be honest or whatever her sister was potraying. Nikki could infer from how she was acting it was merely to test her or get info on her. '4 days ago she was ready to overthrow me and now she wanted to be my friend. I don't buy it one bit.' she thought. She pondered for a moment how to responded to the comment. Her face crinkled and she looked up towards her and stared her in the eyes.

"Hmmm.... cut the crap, I see right through you. Try and over throw me and then all the sudden you wanna be my best friend. I don't buy it. Do you know why our father named me fire lord? Isn't it odd he didn't give it two one of his children? He even knew you were alive by the time of his death...I was informed by him. So why would he give the power to a bastard?" Nikki asked.
"Well our little brother and sister are a bit spoilt, and you do do your job well. Is there any other reason other than you actually deserve it?" her older sister responded.
"You know our father was never bested in combat until 3 years ago. Do you know who bested him? Mind you this was when his sickness first started, it hadn't afflected him yet..though." Nikki responded
"While I think you're derserving, Our father wasn't a easy man to beat. Surely it wasn't you." she chuckled nervously not sure whether she could actually bear with what the girl was potentially going to say next.
"Roger, Come in Please", The man opened the door and walked in. He stood relaxed. "You were the one who moderated the fight, Correct?" she asked. He quickly responded "Yes, That was me" he said. "Who won that fight?" she asked mischievously. "You, mam. He lost in less then a couple of mins. That was the first time I've ever seen him beaten and not to mention how soundly. He was still in tip top shape for his age. I was surprised" he said. "Who was it who beat him" she asked. "You did, mam." he said nervously, the man was at least 50 and yet he was extremely nerved at the situation. "Thanks you may leave" Nikki said.
"So if you want to duel me do it now, before I become any stronger." she said.
"I don't want to believe you, but if you are telling the truth, then dueling you I wouldn't last very long. I was trained greatly under my father's orders, but I could never hold a candle him, even now - that is something I know even with how confident I am in my capabilities." The eldest said.
"So with all do respect, it's pretty stupid that you'd think I'd fight you if you are that powerful." The eldest said. Apart of the eldest said it to get the Empress angry, but unsure on how true the news the eldest just received was, the eldest wasn't sure whether that was such a good idea anymore.

"Odd, I expected more from you. You fought father when he was in his prime and when he was young and you yourself was only 8? I think, I faced him when he was old and sick. When I was 15. I guess I wouldn't be surprised from considering the chickened shit siblings you have. After beating them so easily, I'd expect more from you. You are the eldest however, it seems you are just as weak as the others. Must be the genes you've got from your pitiful mother." she said antaginozingly. Normally Nikki would never say something like this, but she wanted to test her abilities, she was rumored to be quite strong and it had been a long time since she was challenged.

Chaelin felt a lump in her throat hearing the girl talk bad of not only her, but her family. Even though she wanted to punch her until she couldn't speak anymore, and while the girl's own words did reaffirm Chaelin's belief that she could beat her, Chaelin didn't move. It was what she wanted, and Chaelin didn't want to just beat her, she wanted to get information and humiliate her in new ways not invented yet. "As the Empress, I'm in no positioning to disagree with what you think of our mother and siblings," she said with a sad smile.

She sighed, making it as believable as possible. "But, again, I honestly came here just to talk." Chaelin looked in the woman's eyes. Nothing. Nikki still had the same look of disdain and a lust to fight her and do the same sort of things to her that Chaelin wished to do to her. She knew that she'd have to prove her words true and she hated what way came to mind. Regardless, she spoke, "I mean it, sister. If you want me to prove it right now, here I'll bow to your feet like a slave for what it's worth. I'll do anything to make you believe me." She slowly settled to her knees as she placed her head against the carpets.

Dammit, I swear I'm going to have us swap positions in the future, she thought. More importantly, she began to hope that the woman wasn't as cruel as she was and would have her further her humiliation to prove her point. Chaelin was rumored to probably be the cruelest woman in the whole of the Fire Nation, but the brunette woman was commendable in cruelty as well.

She was quite surprised by the reaction, in Nikki's head she for sure thought that this would cause her to fight with anger. Quickly Nikki realized this women was no idiot. She knew that anyone who was the fire lord would need great strength not to mention the fact she had turned the Fire Nation society upside down. Many had come to challenge her to combat and she had accepted them all. None could even make her resort to bending. She had so far beaten them all without even bending. However she hadn't been seriously challenged by anyone. This women before her would be quite the challenge, even if she was fire lord.

Instead of initially attacking like she planned, if the women pussyed out, she gained a new found respect for her. Her mind whirled around a idea to make her status legitimized. Nikki knew this would provoke her to try and kill Nikki. However she doesn't let what best interest her benefit herself. Many would understand that with her revolution of democracy. When the women the bowed before Nikki, Nikki started to laugh. She regained her composure quickly. Intailly this would come off quite disrespectful, that is not what she meant though.

Nikkis face became very serious and she motioned her to rise. Her lips opened and she began to speak. "Now my friend, I'd expect you to not lie to my face. However you are smart with what you do. I'd never ask a subject to bow out of fear or need. I'd want them to bow out of love. Anything else is unacceptable." She stood from her chair and moved around towards her, there was enough space between the two as she bent over and bowed before her. "I am here to serve you, not the other way around. I'm here to make the happiness of my soldiers and people first. You may learn this over time, how meaningless we are compared to a beggar on the street. I hope you learn that, If you can one day prove that to me I will allow you to retain your title. Your brother and sister have both shown me aggression and a superiority complex. Which is way I revoked there rights when I die. For when I die I won't be able to manage them. You've shown me a bit of difference, bending the knee is important...you seem to have learned that lesson. However I'm not one to be lied to. I would rather you yell at me and tell me I should be lord then lie to me. I tried to get you to fight me, so we could settle this discord...it seems you'd justly avoid it which is understandable" she would say.

Quickly gathering herself and stand up. Her face shown a bright and firey smile, she'd swiftly walk over toward her desk and sit down. She wasn't sure what her sisters face would look like, Nikki could only guess total shock. She sat down and began to write and scribble on papers and wait for a response or no response and press on with her work.

Chaelin bit into her lower lip angrily as she bowed before the woman. Bowing was easily enough since she didn't mean it, but having the girl laugh at her for it was where the real humiliation was. More so, she couldn't help but now feel cautious as to whether she had talking loud enough for the guards situated outside to overhear. The very last thing she wanted in the moment was to have someone witness her bowing like she was while the woman laughed.

After a moment, Chaelin looked up to meet the eyes of the woman. She motioned her to stand, and for a second Chaelin hesitated since it sort of like her doing what the woman told her. Regardless, she did and stood straight waiting for something more. The woman had seemed pretty intent on fighting her before, but now that fire that burnt in her eyes before was mostly gone. Regardless, she knew it was still in there as well as in her. Someday the two women would surely settle their differences in battle, she knew.

Nikki moved towards her, and admittedly Chaelin found her heart beating faster out of curiosity whether she was still intent on fighting, and her adrenaline pumping since she wanted to hit her. The woman did a complete turn in anything Chaelin thought she would have done though, and for a second Chaelin was dumbfound by the action as she listened to her speak of her reason.

Foolish, she thought as both her and Nikki regained their composure. The woman's words seemed honest and humble enough. As far as she saw though the woman still maintained a arrogance which angered Chaelin since she still believed that she was better than her. She didn't want her title out of some sympathy. That wasn't the type of woman her father had raised.

Composing her shock of the moment, Chaelin smiled as sweet as always, but no less fake. "Thank you," she said. She assessed whether a bit of drama by her crying out of happiness was needed for the situation, but she decided against it since it'd make it a bit too unbelievable. Of course there weren't complete trust on either side, but Chaelin had somewhat made a breakthrough by getting the woman to bow.

So, now," she said, brightening into a more excited smile. "Now, about bonding and sisters. I know you're busy and all, but here, I'll do all your work for you to make up for it." Of course the entire proposal was still to get into the woman's friend zone so that she could gather information, but honestly and truly, Chaelin did need a break. Her first week back she was arrested, the weeks following she got barely any rest cause of her thinking of the Fire Lord position, and after ten years, she really needed to remind herself why she liked the nation.
