Glider Practice[Flashback]

Since the first time she'd looked at the others being able to fly around Riri'd been in a mixture of jealousy and awe. So of course her first instinct was to try it too. However she'd been so intimidated by the others her age in the training grounds, all being noisy as they practised. She hadn't tried speaking to any of them yet, and she didn't want to, they scared her a little too much. So she'd retreated to the cliffs, to try and fly by herself. With one stolen glider in her small hands she stared at the sudden drop with a large amount of worry. It looked like a rather long way down if things went wrong. She glanced over the actual edge of the cliff to get a better look, squeaked, and darted back a step scared.

Riri shook her head, messing her red hair up in the process. There was nothing to be afraid of, everyone else had been able to do it easy, she should be able to do it without much effort as well. She dusted off the plain orange and yellow air nomad uniform, gulped and stepped forward again, she could do this if she really really tried. She looked at the glider-staff, biting her bottom lip slightly. How did you open this thing again.

"Uwaa..." She tilted her head, trying to find out what the secret of the glider was. Whimpering slightly she stepped away from the cliff again. If she couldn't even open the thing there was no way she was going to get away with jumping off such a steep cliff and learning to fly around so easily. She sniffled to herself lightly, slightly annoyed at her failings. Making a loud stomp on the floor in mini temper tantrum.

Mori cocked her head slightly to the left, there was a young air bender from her temple and it seemed she was frustrated. Well what could be the problem, this was the question that Mori was forced to ponder for a few moments before deducing that It must be due to the glider, perhaps the giant Mori could help her.

Coming up to the girl, Mori would tower over her so she bent down to look at her closer to face to face. "What is the problem?" Mori asked in a light and cheery voice, totally unfitting for her stature.

While Mori lacked a flyer herself she was sure that she could show the young air bender in front of her how to fly. The first step of course was confidence, and as such Mori Oni was going to try to build up the young girl's bravado the whole time. Well this will be a fun day Mori thought to herself as she enjoyed the company of the other air nomads, they were a smaller community so unity is essential. However even if it wasn't Mori would still strive to make her temple unified, not that she would have a hard time at that.

Riri gasped at the sound of someone's voice behind her. However her first gasp didn't compare to the volume of her second gasp as she set eyes on the woman who was approaching her. The massive older girl stood huge in comparison to Riri's figure. Regular adults were giants in comparison to her, but this woman was something else. The shock was so much that Riri took another step back nearly falling off the cliff face in the process.

Suddenly remembering her manners Riri shut her open mouth and tried to recall the problem at hand. She looked from the woman to the glider, and shook the glider slightly, as if gesturing in sign language that it was the problem. She huffed again at the thing, and looked back to the tall woman with a large convincing pout on her face. "Won' open" She sniffed in a quiet voice.

She turned her head away in slight embarrassment at her failing, she should certainly be able to open a glider, as well as fly one. not being able to caused her cheeks to redden in the presence of someone else, who probably had been able to use such objects for years. She bit her lip a little and reached out with her arms, gesturing for the older girl to take the staff. "Could you?" She asked vaguely, hoping she could get a little instruction.

Mori's head tilted more to the left as the young girl shook her kite. The staffed, glider did not seem to open for her, and Riri told her so. "Don't worry I wasn't flying when I was your age either" Mori said with a kind-hearted chuckle as Riri sniffed. Motioning her closer as Riri presented the glider to the giant, Mori wanted Riri to start somewhere other than the cliff just in case worse came to worse. Flying without a glider was rather difficult and doing anything such as saving another made it nigh impossible. Still that wasnt something Mori enjoyed thinking about and she stopped herself there.

As Mori gentled plucked the staff from Riri's hands she'd lie down flat on her back. "Jump onto my shoulders, it's a better place to jump off than the cliff" The glider was pressed into Mori's left hand and held above the ground gently. It looked like a toy in Mori's hands and one of the reasons the monk form the air temple no longer flew with kites was due to the fact that all the poles looked like some miniature antique in her hands. They always did make things too small for her here, well rather it would be better to say she was too large. Not that it phased the leader, she needed the intimidation factor in case they ever got bandits or the like.

Riri blushed a little more in embarrassment as the bigger person informed her that it wasn't abnormal to not be able to glide. She must have been really easy to read. She pouted her bottom lip out as the big girl chuckled. Her expression took on a more curious look when the mountain of a woman took the glider from her outstretched hand. Pulling her hand back gently to her collarbone, Riri tilted her head to the side listening to the instructions.

Jumping off the woman's shoulders certainly seemed a better idea than falling hundreds of feet to almost certain death. However the gesture still made her feel a slight bit inadequate. With a moments hesitation Riri complied, taking a few light, uneven steps, towards the giantess. Clambering on to her shoulders somewhat awkwardly. She opened her mouth to ask something, but couldn't find the words and ended up only making a stuttered noise through a confused expression.

Mori was not away that the girl had climbed aboard until she tried to speak, my this one was extremely shy. Reminiscent of a younger person Mori once knew, as Riri chirped Mori rose to her full height. The seven foot drop would hopefully be enough for Riri, if not Mori could climb atop something, but baby steps first.

"If you fall I can catch you easily" Mori Oni giggled in her light voice as the sun beat down. It seemed as if some of the other air benders would pause and look at the two female air benders, but for the most part it was just a regular day in the air temple. Most were already used to seeing the sheer size of Mori, so the stares were instead caused by curiosity as to what the pair was doing.

Handing the glider above her head to Riri, Mori hoped the girl would ask something before just jumping off. In either case, Mori was sure she could teach Riri how to fly.

Riri held on tight to the older air nomad, scared of the small seven foot drop before her. However her fear had been lightened, no longer was she afraid of falling to a rocky death, but this time of cuts or bruises. She looked from the older woman's face, to the glider and back again with a small amount of curiosity, but mostly a larger amount of nervousness.

"S-so" she stuttered trying to figure out the position she was in. Her cheeks turned a deeper red, nearly matching her hair colour now. Biting down on the collar of her top nervously she stuttered out the rest of her question. "S-so, do I uhm..." She made a gesture of falling with her hand before turning back to the giant lady. "Jump?"

"Well I'd prefer if you fly, but yes that is the first step dear" the cuteness overload was begining to overtake Mori and she would have to try hard not to just pinch the girl's cheeks. "Remember to let the air take you, don't force it" as she said this the woman's voice grew a bit more stern. Now all there was to see was a do or die flight...well do or be caught by Mori.

Scrambling up her courage Riri bit down on her bottom lip. Ok, she could do this. It was only like seven feet. Though that was roughly more than double her own size. Taking a deep breath in, holding her glider above her head she jumped a little roughly. Closing her eyes tightly she lost all sense of direction, making a high pitched squeak, though her glider did what it was built to do, and she gently floated down to the ground. She stumbled down on to her knees a little roughly and huffed loudly. "Uwaa! that was scary."

Mori was delighted, it was obvious that the little Riri had done well on her first try. While that may have been true, she was still quite scared. "You did wonderful" Mori said smiling widely before she continued "you can try from my shoulders as many times as you like dear." They still had some odd amount of hours before the sun would even begin to think about sinking, Mori was sure it would not even take that long to get the younger air bender to get her feel for the glider.
